Let’s learn about the incredible work of HARTT! HARTT is the Humane Animal Rescue and Trapping Team. They perform both adoptions and rescues in the field. Many other animal rescue organizations do not perform rescues in the field. This can be difficult and challenging work. Many of the dogs HARTT encounters are nervous, shy, or afraid around people and the team has to exercise patience and special strategies to help these animals. As a result, the team’s focus is on safety for the animals, and then helping these at-risk animals to be reunited with their lost families, or adopted into new homes.
Critical Role in the Community
The team at HARTT plays an immensely critical role in the community. Through their efforts, they have been able to achieve many wonderful results:
- HARTT has been able to reunite several dogs with their original owners
- Dog learn new socialization skills so they can be ready for their adoption
- Animals are safe and receive veterinary care, keeping other animals they come in contact with safe as well
- The Team’s educational events teach people about the traumas that impact dogs and give them PTSD reactions
- Dogs that have been rescued and adopted bring tons of joy and happiness to their new families
HARTT runs mostly on donations from the public. There are no government contracts or government funds. Instead, the team is comprised of dedicated volunteers with a true passion for helping these lost animals in need of rescue. The incredible work of HARTT and their rescue specializations means they are in high demand to consult on rescue cases around the world.

The volunteers at HARTT teach the dogs to be less afraid. They also teach foster families and those looking to adopt a dog about how to keep these dogs safe. Their hope is to find a previous owner and they do a very thorough search. But if no previous owner can be found, their goal is to place the unclaimed and unwanted dogs up for adoption. They put time, effort, and energy into helping the dogs learn new skills so they can be adopted. Helping dogs find their forever homes is the biggest reward for the incredible work of HARTT.
