1. Tell us a little bit about yourself and your background in the local area.
September 26 of 2021 was my 49th anniversary of being in Real Estate. I began in Garner, Iowa. First two years as salesperson, and the remaining consecutive years as a broker. I owned/operated my own agency up until 2008 when Keller Williams purchased my agency. But to step back a bit, I, my wife, and four children moved from Iowa and arrived in Prescott on January 23, 1986. In addition to selling real estate, I was a licensed general residential contractor.
In June of 2003, I discontinued the construction and focused solely on real estate. Lewerke Real Estate had 32 agents up to the time of the 2006/7 crash when my agent count reduced to approximately 20…at the time of Keller Williams purchasing my agency. I taught Real Estate at our local Yavapai Community College for seven years and owned/operated my own school for 4 years.
2. What brought you to Keller Williams Arizona Realty in Prescott?
In 2008, I was approached by Realty Executives, C-21, Russ Lyons, and Prudential to purchase or merge. However, I found they were only interested in eliminating competition, adding some agents and perhaps gaining a better location. I was not interested in any of their propositions. I was approached by Doug Bunch, set up a meeting, and found Keller Williams had the same values I had…faith, family, business. I brought up the circumstances to my agents and they unanimously were excited to join Keller Williams due to their reputation and training.
3. What do you like most about working with the KWAZ in Prescott team?
The move was one of the best decisions I have made. It opened up doors that led to training, technology, exposure, and a general feeling of family, where there was genuine cooperation and help that came from the administration as well as the fellow agents. It was exciting to go to the office!
4. Do you have a favorite client story you would like to share where you believe you helped them the most?
There are so many stories and so many that I have forgotten. In the first year of my career, I arranged a showing of a home. Instructions were to call first, if there was no answer, use the garage to house entry with the key kept in the office. I called but there was no answer, so I took the key and led my clients through the garage to enter the home. Just as I unlocked the door and entered, the wife came out of the shower! It was an awkward moment and, of course, we didn’t proceed. My broker was instructed to not allow me to show the home in the future!
5. What is the secret to your success?
When I taught at the college, I told the students my formula for success in real estate; Knowledge (the inventory, rules/regulations), honesty, and hard work! Then include perseverance! I have seen many ups and downs, good times, bad times, many times of reevaluation or adjustments, but to keep your eyes on your goal.
6. If you could give one piece of helpful advice to a new real estate agent, what would that be?
My one piece of advice would be: Always do your best, learn all you can, and be a servant to your clients without losing yourself.
7. Where will we meet David Lewerke in the future?
I have had a wonderful, rewarding career. My youngest daughter has joined me and will eventually take over my client base. I am very excited to pass a legacy of clients and experience on to her. Where will I be in the future? Continue to sell, train my daughter, and work until I no longer can efficiently be of service to my clients.
One more thing…What has been the most rewarding over the past 49 years….being the solution to my client’s problem and helping to establish young peoples’ basis for financial success!
