Meet Kionna Comer!

An interview with Kionna Comer, REALTOR® at The Lux Life Real Estate Group at Keller Williams Arizona Realty. Kionna serves as the Chairperson of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee on the Keller Williams Arizona Realty Agent Leadership Council (ALC) for 2022.

1. Tell us about your background and interest in real estate.

My background is in Telecommunications. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Broadcast Journalism from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. In 2016 my position with a company where I had an 8 year tenure, was eliminated. I found myself unemployed for the first time in nearly a decade.

I was determined to never let that happen again and knew that entrepreneurship in some fashion would be way to go. Six years ago, I obtained my real estate salesperson’s license. Ultimately, I am now in charge of my career, and I love it!

2. What specifically brought you to Keller Williams Arizona Realty?

In the middle of one night as I was determined to chart my own path going forward, I registered for real estate classes. Once I completed my classes and obtained my real estate salesperson’s license, I visited a number of different brokerages, and even other KW brokerages. I came from a corporate background and needed structure and very much wanted to participate in the KW profit share program. KWAZ is the right brokerage for me to fulfill my career aspiration and maximize my wealth building capabilities. I call the KW profit share program my “401kw.”

3. What do you like most about working at this brokerage?

Upward mobility! KWAZ has let me explore multiple areas within the real estate industry. There are several facets of the real estate work, leadership, and volunteering that have all added to my arsenal. I see lots of opportunities here, and it is exciting and enriching to plug into the culture. KWAZ creates an experience for the agent. This in turn lets me create an experience for my client. It is a win-win solution all around.

4. Tell us about your Committee and its focus.

I like to say that the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee is small but mighty! Since this is a new Committee, we have a lot of potential for growth across the market center. The way forward is within a supportive brokerage. Truly, the focus at KWAZ has been awesome. Our leadership team is very hands-on and supportive. As a result, our Committee has a lot of encouragement and it is rewarding for us to work together on so many projects.

We are focusing on education this year, and have identified a number of topics to share with the agents. We are also working to make connections with local organizations that can help us broaden our reach into the community. Ultimately, we are working within an environment that is already fully accepting and supportive. Therefore our tasks are easy to do and are very well received. It is a joy to work on this Committee and get to meet so many of our agents who love what we are doing.

5. What motivated you to accept the leadership position of your Committee?

There was a gap and I saw an unspoken support for these efforts. Our market center does care for the concepts, and supports our work. But we do need to speak it, not just support it. I am in real estate to advocate for homeownership. Many people do not know how real estate can help create generational wealth for their families. Working on this Committee helps me teach clients about areas for wealth building they might not have otherwise considered.

6. What do you hope your Committee is able to achieve this year?

My hope it that our Committee can help people understand the concepts of diversity, equity, and inclusion. I also want them to understand why they need to be a part of this Committee. My hope is that I can continue to grow in my own career and passion for this work. I am constantly sharing about our initiatives. My goal is to grow this Committee large enough that we can make a big change in our market center, community, and our lives.

7. Where will we meet Kionna Comer in the future?

My goal is to build a team that can run in my absence! I want to focus on many initiatives relating to diversity, equity, and inclusion. This includes advocating for housing among those groups who have the greatest potential to gain from buying real estate. I am very passionate about this, and see that I can help many people make a difference in their lives and those of their families.
